Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-08-14

This policy governs pastandpath.com. Pastandpath’s subject is Pastandpath; this page is about the information involved in publishing it and reading it.
Email Marketing
Mailing-list signup requires confirmation from the address given, which stops anyone subscribing you without your knowledge. Unsubscribe links and a postal address appear in every message, and we do not pass the list to anyone.
Partners and Providers
This site may involve a hosting provider, an analytics provider, an email service (only if you subscribe), and advertising partners (only where advertising is served). Some process data strictly on our behalf; advertising and analytics vendors typically act as controllers in their own right.
How the Data Is Applied
We use what we hold to operate the site, to see in aggregate what readers interested in Pastandpath find useful, to send subscribed email, and to enable advertising where it appears.
Your Choices
You have rights over your data, and which ones depend on where you are. Common to most: find out what is held, get it corrected, get it deleted, get a copy, push back on a particular use, and stop your data being sold or shared for ads. GDPR applies in the UK and EU; CCPA/CPRA and its equivalents apply across a growing list of US states. Global Privacy Control is honoured. More at State Privacy Notice and Do Not Sell or Share.
Categories of Data
Visiting pastandpath.com may generate ordinary technical information — IP address, browser and device type, referring page, and the pages opened. Anything you type in yourself, such as an email address for the newsletter or a name against a comment, is collected only because you chose to provide it.
- Worth saying outright, since it is the question we get asked: we ask readers not to send us sensitive personal details, and we delete rather than retain anything of that kind that reaches us unprompted.
Keeping and Protecting Data
We do not keep data indefinitely. Analytics expires per the provider’s policy, newsletter data ends when you unsubscribe, comment data ends when the comment goes. Security measures are proportionate: limited access, encrypted connections, and prompt removal of anything not needed. Absolute security is not something any site can promise.
Children
This is not a children’s site. It is not directed to under-13s (or under-16s where that threshold applies), no data is knowingly collected from them, and any that arrives is deleted once identified.
Cookies in Brief
How cookies are used here, and how to turn them off, is set out in the Cookie Policy.
Where advertising is served, third-party vendors including Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
